ABOUT THE BWVI

Your life is based on foundational assumptions and a framework of guiding principles that provide your thinking with a basic stability, shape, and structure. This is known as your worldview.

The term worldview comes from the field of philosophy and has been gaining in popularity in recent years. Understanding the concept of worldview allows you to be more aware of the root systems that guide how you and others think and act.

Your Biblical Worldview is determined by considering your perspective on six areas of philosophical inquiry and comparing them with historically accepted interpretations of writings contained in the Bible:

  1. Ontology, the study of what is.
  2. Cosmology, the study of where it all comes from.
  3. Eschatology, the study of where you are going.
  4. Axiology, the study of what you consider to be good and evil.
  5. Praxeology, the study of how you should or prefer to act.
  6. Epistemology, the study of what is true and false.

The Biblical Worldview assessment is a helpful indicator that helps you determine if what you believe to be fundamentally true lines up with what the Bible says regarding these questions. This assessment was designed to help you examine your own fundamental beliefs and potentially adjust those beliefs to be more consistent with the Bible. As such, this exercise can be a great tool for personal growth and development.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS OF THE BWVI

Kevin Rawls

Kevin L. Rawls, Ph.D., M.B.A., M.A.R.

Dr. Rawls has been studying the concept of worldview for over 20 years. He holds a PhD in Business Administration, a MBA, and a MA in Religion. A strong believer in the ubiquitous nature of the Gospel, Dr. Rawls sees the impact that a well-developed Biblical worldview can have on the lives of believers and the world. Dr. Rawls brings a breadth of study from various disciplines together in a way that allows for a broad understanding of Biblical worldview. Additionally, as an advocate and researcher in social entrepreneurship Dr. Rawls is continuing to advance the idea of business as a means to advance the Gospel. Dr. Rawls currently serves as an Associate Dean at Liberty University where he has been a part of the development of the online program for a number of departments and schools.

Kristen Hark

Kristen J. Hark, Ph.D.

Dr. Hark has worked, taught, and studied communication for over 20 years and truly understands the need for content-rich learning and content-rich faith. Working with people, has taught her to understand that the heart of communication, whether strategic, philosophical, interpersonal, or digital, relies on understanding bias, so that we can meet and engage people with differing, and at times, competing worldviews. Through her years of teaching, speaking and researching, Dr. Hark has become increasingly driven to teach people not to waste the process, and that healthy, interdisciplinary communication can make a difference.

Hark’s commitment to understanding worldview is grounded on her faith that well-supported ideas inform constructive dialogue and the possibility of embracing life-giving worldviews. Dr. Hark is passionate about the possibilities of building strong relationships between theory and practice to inform both academic and marketplace work. Dr. Hark has a commitment to the belief that we can be, and should be, life-long learners… that there is a process to learning well, and it begins with commitment to well-supported ideas. Dr. Hark currently serves as Department Chair for Strategic & Personal Communication in the School of Communication & Digital Content at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
